WEBSTER RESIDENCE . BERKELEY
Situated in the Elmwood neighborhood of Berkeley, the renovation of this 1912 craftsman reimagined the existing second level as a seamless extension of the primary residence by transforming it into a bright, connected space for a creative family. What was once an in-law unit became a cohesive part of the primary home as a a light-filled home office, half-bath, a primary suite, and an ample living room.
With the original architectural details of the lower level in mind, the materiality, finish carpentry details, and fixtures were meant to feel like a seamless extension of the rest of the home. The space features exposed structural elements integrated with existing pitched ceilings and an abundance of windows and skylights throughout. Whimsical wall coverings, fresh color choices, and cheerful furniture and fixtures reflect our client’s playful design sense. Along with the newly configured spaces, the design of the second level provides more room to grow, play, and create.
